It seems an insurmountable task to summarize or even define the last 4 years of my life. A few words come to mind. Life-changing. Miraculous. Joyful. Grace. Jesus.
Seriously.
JESUS.
I moved into an apartment with two of my best friends in the world on September 5, 2008. Living life with 2 other people and a few dogs can be difficult, but you’d be amazed also at how easy it’s been.. And for those of you who know Whit and Jess, but haven't lived in close quarters with them--you won't be surprised to hear that they are just as loving, and just as in love with Jesus when they are behind closed doors. As our time is coming to a close over the next couple of months I know we will all be doing a lot of processing and I will be looking forward to marriage to sweet Dustin. The good news is, this isn't goodbye for the three of us at all. Hallelujah! It's an exciting, but often timid hello to everything God has in store.
Most of our processing and looking back over the past few years will not be shared in any sort of social networking site; most of it will be between us and Jesus. So, although we have all three remained fairly private about our specific love and care for each other during our time together, I want to share something I wrote this past weekend about each of my roommates. I spent some quality time at the beach praying and really thinking about this miraculous, Spirit-filled, and FUN life we've had together.
The first post will be what I wrote about Whitney.
Whitney Marie Drummond
The first time I met Whitney, I remember thinking, “Who is this girl? I want to be her friend and learn her!”. And I was granted the serious blessing of doing so. In fact, Whit can be pretty quiet, so I know that it’s a very special privilege to know Whit the way that I do. And she’s incredible. In fact, I love every little thing about her. Whitney is gentle. A magnet for children and animals alike. Seriously, they come running to her from who knows where. Whitney is slow to anger and slow to speak, but also very protective and ready to defend the defenseless in a second’s notice. Whitney is artistic, and I don’t just mean she can draw really well and make you think you are looking at a photograph (which she can do) but she has an eye for the world that I do not. She sees in color like me, but she also see’s how all the lines, shapes, and figures work together. Her drawings are incredible and seem an impossibility to me. She has made history with her designing ability and there's only more to come from this Whit's artistic hands.
Whitney cooks a mean breakfast and most recently some ridiculous pancakes. She has a saucy sense of style, and honestly is just plain hot. Whit’s going to make an amazing (and hot, of course) wife and mother, and I always say I’m going to have to send my kids to her when I don’t know what to do with them.
You might not know that Whit has a beautiful voice. ( I tried for years to get her to sing me to sleep) She writes eloquently and is amazing at strategy games. (she doesn’t like me to play chess with her, due to a 20 minute turn I took one time...) Whit is hilarious. Her one-liners are so smart and yes...Whitty. In the Drummond family, they sit around and listen to Whit tell anecdotes from her day and before long she always has them in stitches!
Whit loves Jesus. She prays with the fire of the Holy Spirit, and it’s impossible for me to make it through her prayers, even her praying over a meal (not kidding) without crying. I’ve watched miracles in Whitney’s life and been witness to an incredible transformation as Jesus has gotten more and more of a hold on her. Whit loves fiercely and wholly. She’s sensible, honest, PURE of heart, and if you even think about touching her, I’m gonna knock you off your feet. And I’m really not kidding. Whit is a treasure.
Contrary to what some have thought, Whit is an emotional creature. She often keeps her emotions on the inside, but also cries with the best of us. In fact, I can think of several things in my own life that she’s cried with me over. Whit is trustworthy, an excellent secret keeper, and so loyal.
As a friend, Whitney is the kind of person who is really good at involving you. That’s really good for me, as I have several friends today because of Whit's persistence in pursuing them. And of course we are friends because of her pursuit of me. A bonus of being Whit's friend is becoming part of her family. And that has been worth gold to me! (besides the incredible free food involved with joining the fam ;) )
On a more personal note, Whit has taken care of me many times and always looks out for me. Even though the two of us have very different personalities, she will often join me in my crazy little world which brings me much JOY. Her honesty and sensibility help me, and others, get through the crazy stuff that comes along with living life.
